April 2019 Astrology Trends
Continuing influences…
February 13-June 12, 2019 (exact March 28, 2019 from about 7 AM MST to about 2:30 PM MST) Pluto in Capricorn oppose North Node in Cancer. (Pluto turns direct on October 2, 2019 so there’s not a chance to oppose the North Node again.) This is an opportunity for true transformation and evolution on a cosmic scale. Look at how powerful the feelings of past habits and forces can be as a shadow and choose to move into the future where and when you can. It’s a meditation in change, transformation, and shadow. What is useful and what have you learned? What is needed to grow and become the future you? What needs to dissolve about your identity, so you can heal and what can you reassess in order to serve something beyond your ego? Then, how can you put this into daily practice?
February 17-March 19, then after Mercury turns direct on March 28; this aspect occurs on April 6- 13 (exact February 24, March 15 and April 10) Mercury in Pisces trine North Node in Cancer: It might be interesting to see how your brain gets involved in the things from your past during this time period. If so, I guess it’s what is meant to be—treading the streets we used to tread. Sometimes we revisit things for a while—go back to visit the old neighborhoods—so to speak. We might not be able to make sense of it at the present time and may not be able to move forward very well, so I say let’s not sweat it and just let it be for now. We can find ourselves in mental loops where we can’t see how to move into the future, so leave ambitious decisions for later in the year. With our minds in Pisces, I think we may feel more nostalgic and intuitive during the long Mercury Retrograde time period than we do rational. Leaning into self-regulation and self-care that turns away from over-indulging will be a good enough victory.
March 5-6 Mercury stations and turns retrograde at 29 degrees Pisces just prior to conjunct with Chiron at 0 degrees Aries. (Mercury finally completes conjunction with Chiron in Aries on April 20 at 3 degrees Aries.): Mercury has been in its shadow period since February 19, getting ready for the retrograde from March 5-28. Turning retrograde so close to Chiron has me thinking we may be looking at how we have been hurt or limited creatively or intuitively and begin to review how me might break free from those mental models we hold within. The month of March is a time to look at the past; the month of April will be a time to look toward the future. We will have the opportunity to understand and learn about how we can think differently in the new astrological year.
March 12-19; April 9-15 (exact March 15 and April 12) Mercury Retrograde square Jupiter in Sagittarius: This gives you the ability to see the big picture and also helps you miss some of the finer details. It’s likely that even though you have an optimistic perspective, you will have to go back over whatever you produce during this time. (There’s a danger of over-estimating your abilities or coming across as egotistical also.)
March 13-20; April 7-14 (exact March 16 and April 11) Mercury Retrograde sextile Pluto in Capricorn: One way to focus your communication that is supported is the area of psychology and deeper subject matters. When you turn away from the frivolous and work on virtuous transformation, Astrology supports you. This is how the energies are directing our expression for the highest good at this time. Therefore, I suppose talk with your spiritual mentor or therapist and think about your mental models instead of go to a party…
March 16-April 12 (exact March 22 and April 7) Mercury Retrograde in Pisces sextile Saturn in Capricorn: A great time for looking into the history of your family and ancestors. A time of good judgment for studying, learning, teaching, organizing, and looking at long-term projects. More serious subjects are favored.
March 18-April 9 (exact March 24 and April 2) Mercury Retrograde conjunct Neptune in Pisces: You may be overwhelmed by the amount of information you receive in dreams, during meditation, and intuitively. Subject matters such as Astrology, spirituality, etc. may be much more up your style at this time. Stay away from those who are anything other than unbiased and compassionate. Those who are unable to let go of deceit and aggression are not able to manifest their higher natures yet. (Speaking of Martin Luther earlier in this newsletter, this is one of the aspects in his natal chart!)
March 31: Mars enters Gemini: Mars entered the sign of initiation and communication just before April began. Your energy may pick up and you may feel more like talking and reaching out to people than you did in March. Also, Mercury turned direct and as it resumes its forward movement, this placement of Mars will help the collective momentum to begin to turn around and become more motivated to get projects and people moving in an increasingly active direction once more. Seeds may begin to peek out of the ground to sprout, both metaphorically and physically, as Springtime is supported by this Mars in Gemini placement. Our bodies may like a lot of varied movement, so exercise routines can also benefit from activities that incorporate numerous activities instead of many repetitions of one activity.
April Planetary Influences…
April 5 New Moon in Aries: There’s nothing that compares for starting new projects and dreams like the new moon in Aries! What have you been dreaming of putting into motion? Now is the time to bring it into being—and preferably begin prior to the 10th of April when 3 major planets will begin their long retrograde periods. The outer planet retrogrades are good times to still get things done, but it’s nice to send the spark of inspiration into the universe of our lives now, prior to their retrograde. Plus the Summer will ask us to honor the divine feminine rather than be extremely active. So plan to start your important projects NOW. Make the decision about your long-term projects for the year and then allow their retrograde motions to allow you to implement those decisions. Use this new moon as your clear inspiration to connect to your heart and soul—your true self. There is a T-square connected to this New Moon, but I think it connects you to enough tension in your life that you can understand your unique place in the scheme of life so you can create something needed and new. It’s connected to the Saturn/Pluto conjunction opposing the North Node. This is asking all of us to restructure ourselves and transform to make a new human family. It’s time for you to begin (or continue with a new step of) your true path, step by careful step. The moon will reflect your movement as you take this next step.
April 7 – April 13 (exact April 10) Venus in Pisces conjunct Neptune in Pisces: When Venus and Neptune meet, the potential expands for romance, compassion, and spiritual experiences. The flip side of the coin is that negativity, aggression and harshness can barely be tolerated by sensitive folks. Motivation to finish things may be lowered, as well. Focusing on creativity, music, and the arts would yield better results. Helping others is recommended instead of attempting to be too “realistic.” Find some way to give yourself downtime and the ability to daydream.
April 7 – April 13 (exact April 10) Sun in Aries square Saturn in Capricorn: Responsibilities are knocking at the door but your doorbell may not be working and you may not hear the call. People may question your commitment and you may feel a lot of pressure to perform or experience a block of some sort when it comes to fulfilling your responsibilities. This may cause worry or anxiety. Instead of looking for praise or pushing yourself, it may be better to schedule around this block if your can. This may simply be a bad time to attempt to deliver anything. Anything at all! Loot at how it intersects with the Venus/Neptune conjunction! That’s why.
April 10 Jupiter turns Retrograde in Sagittarius (through August 11): Jupiter is in its home sign of Sagittarius during this year’s retrograde. Three slow-moving retrogrades begin in April this year. This is the first, and Jupiter works in conjunction with Saturn like the in-breath and the out-breath. Jupiter expands. Saturn constricts. When planets retrograde, their influence is generally dampened. Both Jupiter and Saturn are in their home signs, so they could be seen as traveling ambassadors who have gone to their home countries and are now taking some time off to be with their families during the several months of retrograde. That means Jupiter (Zeus) will not necessarily be paying such close attention to handing out its beneficent gifts around the zodiac. Also, it may portend some calm and give a chance for you to explore without such strong wind at your back—which could mean peace and calm. Another way to look at retrograde planets is that their energies go from conscious to unconscious. In the case of Jupiter, you may experience unconscious expansion in the areas of wisdom, learning, philosophy, mentorship and relationship with teachers (coalescence of information you could only understand intellectually up to now), and the larger picture of things. In fact, these pictures may occur as projections—dreams and visions. During mid-April, you may feel the inertia of Jupiter’s stationary period while it “turns around” and its speed is decreased. This decrease in speed will happen when it turns direct in August, also. The speed decrease when going retrograde/direct occurs for all planets.
April 7-13 (Exact April 10) Venus in Pisces sextile Saturn in Capricorn: Serious long-term relationships emerge from meetings that occur at this time. Also, this may result in large age-gaps or mentor-mentee relationships. They may be romantic or platonic. This is a nice blend of integrating an artistic approach and understand along with structuring an evaluative way of testing the waters and learning about creativity and organizing life.
April 11 – 16 (Exact April 14) Venus in Pisces trine North Node in Cancer): If you use your heart and your divine feminine energy, you can feel into the family of the world at this time. What would you like to create and contribute? Raising this energy needs to be done consciously.
April 10 – April 16 exact (April 13) Sun in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn: This conflictual energy puts us in touch with how our ego energy can be at odds with power. Maybe this will be shown to us because someone who is in a position of authority will externalize it. Maybe it will be because we, ourselves, need to examine how we use power. The highest use would be to examine power structures in relation to the human ego. How does personal power intersect with group power? How do both intersect with other forms of power—the power of universal consciousness? The power of nature? Maybe acknowledging what we create and the creations we are only a small part of and interact with would help us to keep from setting up any conflicting social situations associated with the square aspect. In any case, understanding that a square aspect is occurring and attributing conflicts to it will probably keep us from doing harm. Doing no harm is where it’s at, baby! Also, an easy way to work with this energy is to do some third chakra meditations if you like that approach. Also, if you have something broken that needs to be fixed—power up your life by fixing or replacing it.
April 11 – April 17 (exact April 14) Sun in Aries trine Jupiter in Sagittarius: Using the Jupiter energy in a trine aspect can be a way to expand and access our understanding of ourselves. This is an opportunity to examine ourselves and understand how we are growing in new ways. It is a time to realize we’re in a new personal phase and gain / synthesize new wisdom. You can also do this through exercise when fire signs are involved—getting physical through mountain climbing or some sort of inspirational sport activity is highly recommended. You can try a new and daring sport or activity if you like.
April 12 – April 17 (exact April 14) Venus in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn: This is supportive energy to integrate romance, creativity, and financial support along with the other aspects during this time to whatever you are transforming. The feminine energy of Venus in Pisces is almost like an integrated heartbeat at the center of the ocean that can touch on the earth energy of Pluto’s earthquake energy to calm it down and say—“breathe, friend… not so much now…” Venus may have a hard time not getting pulled into the underworld.
April 13 – April 18 (exact April 15) Venus in Pisces square Jupiter in Sagittarius: Venus and Jupiter are generally the closest of allies, so when they’re in square aspect, well, they’re still friends. It’s just that they’re a bit muted or watered down. Jupiter is also retrograde. So, for these two planets that operate as the gift-givers of the zodiac it’s as if partners are without their best supports on these days. Venus is trying to hold up both sides of a heavy barbell—and doing it with Pluto (see above), the heaviest planet in the chart. Jupiter has taken a siesta.
April 17 Mercury Enters Aries: Oh, how we wish to BE through touching the objects of this world; through our nervous response to the world around us. Mercury rules our nervous system and Aries is the sign of birth and being. As Mercury the swift-footed moves through Aries, we want to take everything around us and make it our own, so please do not embody thief-Mercury with impulsive Aries, but instead embody the fact that you probably will pick up something new this month and feel it all through your nervous system. I hope you will be able to sleep. (Jupiter and Saturn retrograde along with Neptune in Pisces, Uranus in Taurus, and the other Pisces/Taurus influences may actually help in regard to allowing us to rest, so perhaps the skies are working together after all.)
April 17 – 22 (exact April 19) Mercury in Aries conjunct Chiron on Aries: This is the influence that has me wondering about people’s abilities to act the thief. Also, look out for head injuries and brain injuries. On the plus side, you may find healing instead of injury for issues and injuries of these natures. The first half of April may be a crucial time to consciously train your mind to be ready for a new cycle of growth when it hits Chiron. Life is asking us to step up our trust and our actions. No sitting on the sidelines; Aries wants us thinking and acting out of integrity and with some assertive, creative energy. Use Mercury to develop a strong mind this cycle.
April 19 Full Moon in Libra: The moon travels in and out of the earth’s orbit, and this full moon is the time in the month during which the moon is traveling outside the earth’s orbit. (The new moon is when the moon slips into the earth’s obit and is closest to the earth). This is symbolic of how we live closer and further from one another in relationship, balancing our love and fear toward one another. During this Full Moon, which is opposing Uranus, we will need to gather up our sense of what our inner heartfelt values are and how we wish to embody and express them as we work on our relationships with the Taurus and Libra/Venus energies brought to the surface for evaluation and integration. If you find yourself emotionally disrupted or surprised by the Sun/Uranus conjunction opposing the Moon, use that to balance out your body and mind. Taurus energy needs to start in the body first, so let yourself use nature, movement, and meditation to heal. Offer those around you your balance as a path through.
April 20 Sun Enters Taurus: Taurus rules the neck, and the idea of holding our heads up high in the feminine energy of Taurus occurs to me a s a beautiful symbol of Spring this year. Taurus is the earth itself learning to manifest life. The very essence of life emerging from the decay of the past, using the past to create new life—is the essence of the Taurus magic. Slow and steady and soft, we feel how the solar power moving into Taurus changes from the fire of Aries into the slow body of Taurus. Aries wants to spark and Taurus wants to plant. That is why Taurus can be called possessive—the way the soil possesses a seed for a little while—to offer it space to grow.
April 20 Venus Enters Aries: Venus moves into the sign that lights the flame of manifesting new beings. Our personal needs may feel paramount. Conversely, we may feel childlike and attracted to a high level of activity, stimulation, intellectual activity, and sexuality. Enjoy the fiery interaction and inspiration that comes from relationships and projects while Venus if in Aries.
April 20 – 26 (exact April 23) Venus in Aries conjunct Chiron on Aries: It is possible to inflict wounds in relationships or heal relationships. It is possible to help or heal your financial or creative life. A new start is available provided you keep your eye on healing. During the first half of April, use your time to get grounded and spiritual so you’re not unconsciously seeking battle with this Venus/Chiron aspect—but instead consciously use the energy for healing and a new cycle of growth.
April 20 – 25 (exact April 22) Sun in Taurus conjunct Uranus in Taurus: The Sun is not the light we see from the Sun but what is behind that light—the power of a star. We may not be able to see into a star but we can sense a bit of starlight in the fact that we ourselves are made from starlight. Uranus manifests in varying degrees of intensity and constructivism as it speaks the language of wholeness to its parts, or the language of earth to its inhabitants. Ideas come to and through poets, artists, inventors, scientists, statespersons, and revolutionaries. Any seeds of ideas that have been planted inside you may unexpectedly take root with this aspect. Or, you may see power outages…
April 24 Pluto in Capricorn turns Retrograde (through October 3): Pluto is one of those planets that has to do with what life does to us. We have little control where Pluto events are concerned because they’re rather non-personal when it comes down to it, in many cases. While we have little control, we may observe that events conspire and swirl around us to transform us and affect us as individuals even though we feel a bit like they are beyond our reach. With Pluto retrograde, we may feel we have reach into things we ordinarily would not have access to affect. Allow yourself some time and energy to do what you can do to help restructure and recreate the world anew this year in whatever capacity you have to do so.
April 21 – May 2 (exact April 27) Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces: Mars is doing a variety of things. Maybe Mars can’t decide on which thing to prioritize under this additional Neptune in Pisces aspect. Maybe Mars would do best to DO some dreaming and psychic activities. Prayers and connecting to the oneness aspects of living. And do less, as Mars may run into some blocks if trying to get very assertive. Less may be more in terms of direct action and communication.
April 29 Saturn in Capricorn turns Retrograde (ends September 16): Saturn in Capricorn means the tests are canceled for the middle of the year. Saturn is the teacher of the zodiac. For now, this planet of restriction to help us streamline our focus will be taking a long siesta for the middle of 2019. Saturn helps us understand and define ourselves as we experience these lessons and individuate through the process of refining and strengthening ourselves and our character. During Saturn retrograde, we are tasked with self-determination. Use the time to appreciate and enjoy our wisdom and enjoy the discipline of living within our means and abilities to create wonderful structure and progress around ourselves in our environments, free of too many additional burdens. A time to catch up.
April 30 – October 3 (Exact June 16) Neptune in Pisces Trine North Node in Cancer: The divine feminine is a study in depth of receiving rather than pushing forward. Learning to receive and accept; forgive and rely on intuition—these are very different approaches than our cultural indoctrination. Taking a lot of time to learn and experience this approach during the Summer would make a better world, without a doubt, says Astrology.
April 29 – May 3 (exact May 1): Mercury in Aries square North Node in Cancer: Mercury feels the urge to accomplish many tasks but the North Node is calling us to experience the influence of a divine mothering and re-parenting. Relaxation is in the air for the Summer. I’m sorry, Mercury. It is time to allow and slow down instead of business as usual. Try creativity in the area of your heart’s desires if you really want to achieve something.
