August 2017 Astrological Trends

August 2017 Astrology Trends

On August 3, Uranus retrogrades and during this 2017 period (through November), you may find yourself doing the internal work that will help you reach a new level of freedom from limitations you’ve faced for lifetimes. This is a very intense possibility, and that is the setup of Uranus in Aries in a trine relationship to the North Node in Leo. Suddenly, you’ll have the possibility to break free from patterns that have stymied you seemingly your whole life. How exciting. How exceedingly strange, however. This is stepping out into the unknown, holding the hand of fire energy—will it burn or will it enlighten you? Who knows?

I wish I could offer guarantees. I have no guarantees of my own. There is very little comfort in risk. There is, however, the long game. With faith and an eye for a level of consciousness that exists in a realm broader than one lifetime, we can feel safe in living and dying. We may not need to grasp and cling to the details of experience so desperately when we notice the impermanence of reality. To view life as a fixed object would be delusional, for we are constantly passing through its various dimensions.

August Stormy Sky

The need to win, to have things go our way, to form stories with protagonists and antagonists, to hold to our opinions, and to narrow the human experience implies that what we already know will work and exalt current controls and knowledge. Both Uranus and the North Node involve letting go and learning new things through experience. Experience is more than abstract. Fire is inspiring; it occurs prior to the embodiment of a new understanding. Fire is the sweat and tears and risk and trial and mistakes of learning.

Instead, I offer you support in trying the thing you thought you could never do. The thing has been blocked to you your entire life. The thing you gave up on. Allow your sweet, vulnerable heart to listen to life’s fire moving all around you, sweeping you, too, up in the change.

August Storm in the Pines

Here is what I mean: For years, I have abstained from sugar, mostly. It’s been too tempting, with changes in our household and my energy level, however, to keep that up recently. While many foods are ok for me to pass by, sweetener in my coffee is a slow drip to a lot of increased sugar for me. However, during July, each time I would go to a coffee shop, I would say, can I have a Latte with sweetener? Each time, at a variety of stores—the barista would forget the sweetener. This has happened so many times—at least 15 times!—it became outrageous. My husband has witnessed it and has even ordered for me because I kept thinking I forgot to ask for sweetener. When he ordered, they also forget the sweetener or else put it in his coffee instead! Last night we started on a roll about how life or God/dess is getting the message across to me: I am done with sugar/sweeteners! “The eleventh commandment,” he said, “thou shalt not have sugar.”

“My cheeks hurt from laughing so much.” I tried to drive straight in the lane around the curves at night while wiping the laughter tears! Sometimes life provides destiny—beyond our willpower—when we need to do something. This is a really good-natured example and I am listening. What it implies for the next several months is a change to my level of mindfulness around what I allow into my body, however. That feels like a large loss of control and a surrender on a level I’m not sure I’m ready to face, but I’m also realizing it’s destiny at this time. I wonder how life is “speaking” to you about your destiny.

This should really light up and become a focus in your life with the grand trine around August 31 when Mars is in the late degrees of Leo, and Saturn Moves into the late degrees of Sagittarius. This occurs only after Saturn turns direct and begins to move forward again on August 25th.

Mars will move on fairly quickly, so a sparking event may occur in Late August/Early September that has you thinking on these issues, but Saturn will join into the fire energies for the duration (And Saturn and Uranus will continue in trine aspect through January). Saturn is also a karmic worker of the zodiac, making changes permanent and teaching life’s lesson plans. (With Saturn, I’ve noticed, however, you sort of begin to feel like you have a syllabus again—not as if you’re in a position of no information going in.)

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on August 7 highlights the art and science of compromise. There are so many aspects occurring around the time of the Eclipse, that they appear to be showing how we need to view things together, not in isolation. So, the eclipse occurs against a backdrop of the Jupiter in Libra square to Pluto in Capricorn. Meanwhile, Jupiter is in sextile aspect to the Sun and Mars, who are located together in Leo. So Jupiter, which expands the area it traverses, asks for balance and harmony, but it is in conflict with Pluto’s overhauling of the systems of the world. There is support in that confident and optimistic action are available to support relational activities. People are feeling personally powerful and willing to take action during the first half of August. Further, with the Sun in trine aspect to Saturn, the actions taken have staying power.

One of the other problems, however, is Mercury opposing Neptune. This portends possible deception and tells a cautionary tale that it’s extra important to forego deceptive practices—suspicion, distrust, fear, confusion, spying, gossip, and scandal—in favor of devotion, passion, faithfulness, and unconditional love. Build honesty, trust, and open communication in relationships. Use skills of self-control and practice loving communication. Make sure you are not one of the people who mistakes loving kindness for weakness or idealism, for that would be a mistake. The energy of Venus sextile Mercury can help you create pleasant interactions and focusing on down-to-earth Venus energy (meaning comfort yourself or find a creative focus) may be the way out of any anxieties that arise. By any means, in any event, stay honest—with yourself and with others.

Mercury Retrograde on August 12 starts at 11 degrees Virgo and moves back to 28 degrees Leo  before turning direct on September 5. It will be in its shadow period (before it gets back to 11 degrees Virgo) until September 19. This retrograde has us examining our self-worth and our level of trust in others. Loving words and compromise will conquer distrust. We need to turn toward unconditional love even when we don’t feel like it, and many of the themes of the lunar eclipse are linked into the Mercury retrograde time period, also. Taking the high road of these energies, when we practice compassion, loving kindness, and empathy, we can feel confident in ourselves. When we take the low road of these energies or encounter those who are not managing so well, other things may cross our paths. If we are in a relationship, we may doubt or find out our significant other has been unfaithful. If we are single, we may doubt ourselves in a significant manner. The way out is finding the recipe for unconditional love and faith. Preparing ourselves for the middle and end of August, spiritually-speaking, would be wise. If you haven’t found a source, spiritual practice, a mentor, someone to help you when you’re down—consider getting some support earlier rather than later.

Vineyard

The New Moon in Leo Solar Eclipse on August 21 is looking fortunate! The Sun and Moon along with Mars and the North Node in Leo are trine Uranus in Aries and the themes that have been discussed take center stage for your general enlightenment! I would be a little shocked if you weren’t a shining wallop of insight all day and then all night long. Honestly, if you can record your thoughts… they’ll probably be brilliant! What an amazing day to begin something or dream a new dream. Create, create, create! You have the green light if you can see it through the fact that your light will be shining so brightly you’ll likely have trouble seeing anything.

(Again, the only thing that could cause you trouble is deception or harmful intentions, with Mercury opposing Neptune occurring. Ethics are really important to life according to Astrology right now—lol!)

Speaking of ethics, on August 22, The Sun moves into Virgo, and we wish Virgos Happy Birthday! The Sun and Mercury move into Conjunction for the rest of August, and Mercury finally moves out of opposition to Neptune, so you can feel easier about communication again. You’ll feel your heart and your head are in alignment again. However, then on August 31, the Sun moves into opposition with Neptune. During the beginning of September, just don’t buy much. Retreat, allow yourself healing time, and if you feel taken advantage of, realize it’s a passing energy.

On August 26, Venus moves into Leo. Feel free to express your love, your heart, and your talents. Go ahead and change your style if you feel so inclined. If you wish to be seen, feel free to go out and be seen. Allow your feminine side out and wear a fancy dress to a fancy occasion if that’s something you enjoy. Write a passionate love letter to your spouse if that is more up your alley. Show your talents to the world by creating a Web site if you find this more appealing. In some way, self-expression will be in the air.

his Month: Astrological Trends * Nourishing Recommendations

July 2017 Astrological Trends

July opens on the 1st with enough fireworks to set off for the whole month, but the fireworks continue through at least the 16th. Here are the technicalities: there is a Sun / Mars / Mercury in Cancer Opposing Pluto in Capricorn Square Jupiter/Moon in Libra. Jupiter is inconjunct Neptune through July 20. Sun is trine Neptune in Pisces from the beginning of July through July 12. Mars is no longer square Jupiter after July 3. The Sun is no longer square Jupiter after July 13. Mars is no longer opposing Pluto after July 10. The Sun no longer opposing Pluto after July 17. (On July 16, the Moon sets up a grand cross to close out these volatile oppositions, with sun-Pluto opposition and Jupiter-moon in Aries opposition.)

The Sun and Mars moving together and opposing Pluto in cardinal signs sets up powerful impulses. There is a Buddhist Bodhisattva deity named Mahakala that serves as a protector. A dark blue or black god, Mahakala wears a skull of five crowns to signify the transmutation of five negative afflictions of human nature into positive virtues. Ignorance becomes the wisdom of reality; Pride becomes sameness; Attachment turns into the wisdom of discernment; Jealousy becomes accomplishment; Anger becomes mirror-like wisdom. His six arms signify the training to become generous, moral, peaceful, vigorous, mindful, and insightful. He has a knife to cut through the life veins of enemies such as oath-breakers and hindering spirits, and a skull cap filled with the heart blood of those enemies. He has a drum that makes the primordial sound from which all existence manifested and that makes sounds to awaken us from ignorance and set us on the path of our Dharma. He has a rosary of cosmic activity. One leg signifies accomplishment for the benefit of others and the other accomplishment for the benefit of oneself. Elephants under one leg represent our instinctive animal urges that unleashed can prove to be extremely destructive. He stands upon a disc of sun lotuses, representing his undefiled purity. He has three wide open eyes of blazing fire, demonstrating his blazing energy to consume all neurotic states and his ability to see past, present and future. Snakes slither across his body, as a metaphor that he has tamed and harnessed psychic and instinctive urges and fears. Mahakala is a worthy God to meditate upon or pray to this month, and the symbolism is ripe for consideration as we encounter the stressful aspects (between Mars and Pluto especially). Mahakala is the kind of compassion that awakens us when we are stomping around incensed, indignant and then we mindlessly close our finger in a door or stub our toe. We’re suddenly brought to—and realize the immediacy of the moment. Sometimes it is compassionate to deal with reality straight on instead of our stories and ideas about what should be.

mahakala

There is a type of anger that is reactive. The type that burns hot in you when a lover betrays you or your expectations collapse. In this type of anger, confusion fills you and you are prone to rash action and injury. There is an anxiety and fear behind your anger. There is also a type of anger that grows as you become educated and see behind the form of things to how they are created and can see that if different choices were made, different outcomes would occur. You see that those responsible for creating cause and effect are making poor choices. You feel the warrior within engage and feel you are an actor in the defense of something and there is clarity instead of confusion. You are utterly silent and grounded within yourself. It is the anger that moves you to wise action. You can observe by your own internal state whether your anger is something born of wisdom or folly during July, and either act upon it mindfully to improve the world or let it go and use your mind and other skills instead.

Jupiter inconjunct Neptune will likely provide some limiting conditions. The Sun trine Neptune will provide a moral compass throughout the first half of July. You will find a increased sense of empathy for others and sensitivity to the environment with the Sun in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces. You may sense how your welfare is connected to others or join a group connected to the welfare of others. You may experience strong psychic impressions and connections. This connection also provides support for beginning creative and spiritual projects and pursuits. (If surprising events have occurred that felt heaven-sent, it is not shocking under the influence of Sun-Neptune, which has been active since late June.)

Venus is available in air sign Gemini for the rescue on some of these “age of darkness” energies. She is in sextile relationship to Chiron through July 6 and then Mercury moves to sextile Venus in Taurus July 3 through July 11. With the Venus/Chiron connection, you may feel attuned enough to be able to stand up for yourself without needing validation from others. Your sense of standing up for others who are facing difficulties is also easy to access. You can negotiate relationships and creative ways to communicate around issues affecting yourself and others. Your agility and intuition is heightened. When Mercury enters the mix, this adds to the Gemini energy and stabilizes the situation even further. Using your skilled mind and heart to communicate rationally will serve you well. This means to act quickly but use the skills you’ve integrated over a lifetime. It is the opposite of force or impulse but more like following a dance you’ve danced a thousand times and know well.

Full Moon July

The Grand Fire Trine of Uranus in Aries, the North Node in Leo, and Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius is still active through the 15th. It will also return in September when Saturn moves direct.  The Saturn / Uranus trine is active through July 17th and the Saturn / North Node trine is active all month and through November 8, 2017. With the North Node being the destiny object in the astrology cannon, we can return to the idea of Dharma and karma. The North Node in Leo can be inviting us to awaken to a more dramatic or theatrical period of time in our lives. If we embrace that, perhaps we can let go of a neutral approach for a while and allow ourselves to express our hearts in an Oscar-worthy performance while also remaining aware from our spiritual practice that our true selves are not attached to outcomes or the forms that change in front of us. We are asked to care at this time—with all our hearts—as Leo is the sign of the heart. Aquarius, where the south node resides, can entice us into a fixed energy and a detachment, and that would not be the highest and best use of our energies now, according to astrology. Now is the Leo path forward—engagement, heart-power, drama, passion, accepting that attention and the spotlight are upon you, inspiration, romance, playing the lead, preparing and knowing the lines, accepting the praise, being open to love and affection. It would be a mistake to think you are too misunderstood, too different, an outcast, a rebel—these are the Aquarius ideas and they will take you off-script, so to speak. You are a star right now and have a super-star’s responsibilities to be present on the world stage. What kind of movie are you in? Saturn is your director, in Sagittarius, helping it come to life during this year and next. Will it be an action movie, in which you are a warrior? A great romance, in which you are the handsome lead? Is it a social justice film? There are so many genres. Again, spend some serious time in meditation and prayer to ask about your role and get guidance.

On July 12, Venus moves into trine aspect with Jupiter in Libra. This lasts until July 25. This is good news—astrology’s two benefics in harmonious relationship to one another in the air signs. This will provide a long stretch when communication can occur. Writing, studying, talking, and moving toward your goals will get an immense boost. You can work with others, too.

Another great aspect for work is Mercury in Leo, meeting up with the North Node in Leo, trine Saturn from July 17 through July 25. Head and heart come together and you may get help from an elder or mentor. You may just do some work that really sticks during this time. Long-term gains can be made. Sign important documents (real-estate, wills, etc.) and make decisions.

However, July 22 through July 26 involves a Venus in Gemini / Saturn in Sagittarius opposition, so there are limitations to the fortune that can occur if the work done via that Gemini trine is not in good faith. The Venus aspect shows relationship or financial strain or conflicts that can cause problems and karma. Saturn is a taskmaster if things are not structured in a sober and educated manner. Saturn is the teacher of the zodiac.

New-Moon-July

Venus then moves into sextile aspect with Uranus from July 27 through August 2. It’s a time to socialize. Creative breakthroughs are possible. Watch out for impulsive flings and fly-by-night relationships unless you are into that sort of thing. (Things that look too good to be true probably are!)

Unfortunately, The Pluto in Capricorn / Jupiter in Libra square returns to an exact position at the tail end of July and the world gets on its obsessive-compulsive hamster wheel again. People may display all the signs of wanting power for power’s sake. Just remember your Leo North Node Dharma script and stick to it.

June 2017 Astrological Trends

The Sun squares Neptune as the month opens. You may find your many activities are at odds with your need to feel at one with the universe. Perhaps too much is being asked of you for you to feel you can connect with your spiritual practice, or there may be some tension between your earthly or individual needs vs. the needs for prayer and meditation. This influence or stressful aspect ends by June 7. After that, you should feel the space to connect spiritually again. Neptune turns retrograde on June 16, and this should even add to the ability to reflect and retreat spiritually.

Beach

Beach

Next, Venus conjuncts Uranus in Aries, strongest June 1-5, meaning romantic or financial windfalls or losses are in the air. Look out for the unexpected as the month opens. Opportunities can turn into losses or vice-versa. Since impulses are on high alert, it’s wise to spend within your budget. You can use impulsiveness to take creative risks, however, if you’d like to try something new!

For some people, with the grand trine of Uranus-North Node-Saturn in Fire Signs, this will be a time of triggers for meeting people from past lives (if you share that belief). This can be romantic, which can be exciting, of course, and the trigger for those strong Venus-Uranus impulses. It can also be financial, creative, karmic, or business in orientation. These are the Venus themes. Then there is the Uranus themeset—which is the unexpected, brilliance, electricity, networking, humanitarianism… And that opens up the platform to so much. This is a broad aspect but its nature is a lightning-fast effect from above. Saturn will support with both helping you to recognize its karmic effects and helping to make things permanent for you.

On June 15, the Sun opposes Saturn, which asks you to focus on issues of identity and self-expression. With Mercury opposite Saturn falling on the heels of this aspect on June 18, the mid-June period appears to ask you to review how you express yourself and communicate. Take serious note of your own part in any misunderstanding, for Saturn asks you to take full responsibility for your life. You may find yourself regrouping and learning. If so, you’re right on track. The gift in the Fire Grand Trine with the North Node is to step fully out of a victim mind set so that you are able to build the skills of a fire fighter. As a first responder, you build new instincts and learn to protect others, too. In other words, find the warrior within at this time in destiny, and allow fear to grow into new skills and strength. (Note: metaphorically speaking, fire-fighting involves a lot of planning, preparation, avoiding hot spots, being smart, having the right tools, etc. It doesn’t involve martyrdom and running right into the flames!) When the Sun and Mercury conjunct (move together) on June 21, this pattern should result in some lessons learned soon after.

Beach Reflection

Some may say the element of fire is also linked to the idea of enlightenment, so feel free to also study these elements. Skills such as learning how to conceive of the thoughts, habits, and actions that lead to suffering and eliminate suffering are powerful personal tools. Self-control and focus are amazing to know, they are more than intellectual, and they are available through spiritual practice. It is something that can be learned.

Some of the spiritual dimensions being developed in us through the relationships of these Fire Grand Trine planets, to clue you in, are the use of our spontaneity to help us become more generous. At the same time, Saturn holds us to strict moral codes—we must practice a responsible joyousness, and much of the destiny focus underneath the din is on social justice for children—which is only beginning to come to light since the LEO/AQUARIUS North Node/South Node axis is only beginning its transit. These are not the loud issues because trine aspects are opportunities presented like the quiet small voice of god within waiting for us to listen beneath the noise.

The period surrounding June 9 is filled with energy as well. June 9 is the Full Moon in Sagittarius. This is the Full Moon that calls for adventure, journey, offering, and study. Jupiter in Libra turns direct on June 9, bringing its fortune and gifts directly to bear upon the world again. While this will take a little while to ramp up, Libra gifts mean balance, the visual arts, partnership/relationship, and justice. Venus moves into Taurus on June 6 and then sextiles Mars in Cancer. Venus is at home in Taurus, and so enters her comfort and power. Venus sextile Mars means there are easy undercurrents of romance in the air.

At midnight MDT on June 20/21, the Sun moves into Cancer. Time to direct our strong emotions into protection and nurturing of ourselves and others for the next month. Make some good meals, find a good book to enjoy, and stick close to home if you want to feel equilibrium return at any point. Home improvements and creative changes to the home front are encouraged. Take gentle care of yourself through the Cancer month.

The New Moon on June 23 ushers in Cancer along with a Venus trine to Pluto in earth signs. Again, the Moon is allowing for strong feelings of connection to our partners and lovers this month. There is significant energy for support and nurturing of one another as we develop our dream of life. This is good news after the intense transformation of the past several months and even years. What a transformative weekend for a date!

The final week of June brings a Mars in Cancer square to Jupiter in Libra and a Mars trine to Neptune in Pisces. Also, the same for Mercury in Cancer—Mercury will square Jupiter and trine Neptune. It’s kind of like two arms reaching out in opposite directions with different results. With the right hand, your thoughts and actions may find some frustration as you attempt to communicate and find things may not turn out fairly here on planet earth. With the left hand, you may see that your connection to spirit had been restored and although you can’t make corporeal things connect, your spidey senses can see that all is well in the universe. You will have divine help—and that is perhaps the better place to turn for support. You can avoid fretting over the appearance of dilemmas.

Especially since Mercury and Mars are moving into opposition with Pluto at month’s end, Mercury during June’s final week and Mars from June 29 through July 5. This is a time of tension, so allow yourself plenty of space to see what is underneath the surface of things during this two-week period.

The world may be full of debates and intrigue, so steer clear. What a nice time for one of those media fasts. You can do some research if you like during the Mercury week, or study some psychology subjects. Mars activates competitive or primal urges in some cases, creative and physical energy in others. Together, Mars and Pluto are the two planets that can activate petty power issues, so do your best to side step that part of the tension. They never feel petty at the time when you get entangled, of course, they feel personal, don’t they? Let anything that comes at you, feeling threatening, go at this time. You will live to fight another day.

Desert

Mercury and Mars join together in conjunction June 28. You’ll want to fight the good fight; defend yourself and others. Since this is more evidence of acting prior to thinking, prepare some mental tasks such as crossword puzzles, self-awareness writing exercises, etc. This will help you take charge of this time period instead of finding the influence occurring outside you in experiences with other people. You can use the energy to work on yourself instead! Then you will have ameliorated and discharged the spark and redirected it to good use. Any social effects should be minimized. I want to stress again—it’s not the ideal time to enter the fray. Do everything you can to find peace inside and outside yourself instead. You can prepare in private if you wish and/or find it irresistible. Use the Neptune connection to the oneness of life and the Grand Fire Trine to study the elements of enlightenment instead. Apply these principles.

May 2017 Astrological Trends

Along with the other aspects occurring during the month, I’d like to remind us that the year-long aspect of Saturn in Sagittarius square Chiron in Pisces is asking us to learn to adult-as-a-verb more than we ever have. This aspect is exact at the beginning of May, and so at its strongest. I heard a nice thing the other day about responsibility: that it is our job. Without a lot of fanfare—it is our job to take responsibility for ourselves and we have permission to let go of the traps of blaming others or ourselves and we have permission to let go of martyrdom and resentments and escapism and self-punishing behaviors. It is perfectly fine to simply do our job of self-care in a nurturing and satisfactory manor, using all the tools at our discretion.

That means to feel great and treat ourselves in a friendly and comforting way day after day. It means to acknowledge when we suffer and when we are happy and to choose the better course for ourselves. It means to forego how we look for how we are. It means to help our neighbor and mentor others to be able to help themselves. It is rather a setting aside of the ego and a looking toward the part of us that can build something skillful or heal where we can. For 2017, we are learning to mentor others and build a community. Cooperation, healing, elders, wisdom-givers… these are concepts and forms that deserve attention.

Throughout May, Saturn is a strong player in other ways as well. Saturn brings clarity and solidity and also reveals karma.

Mercury was first conjunct Uranus on March 23, and trine Saturn. It seems there were projects you started then, or that were started for you (perhaps to your surprise), that you probably haven’t been able to finish. With Saturn in the mix, there is likely something heavy going on here—something that is karmic. Add to that the extra oomph of the North Node, and what I see is that life is moving us all through some karma that has been hanging around for a very, very long time. This is quite beneficial even though it can show up as extremely difficult in form. Fire sign energy can be sweeping, and with Saturn in Sagittarius it’s also linked in to an earth energy so it can be connected to some of our earthly forms. The North Node in Leo links to a shake up in what we have been fixed on in the past. With Uranus and Mercury BOTH in Aries, it is rather a demand letter that we conceive of new ideas and beliefs despite the anxiety that opening our minds brings with it.

With the Sun in Taurus until May 21, there is some earth energy to lean on. In fact, the Taurean Sun makes an earth grand trine with Pluto and the Moon on May 5. The sun is in trine to Pluto from the 5th through the 12th, being exact on May 9. This is a period of time beneficial to endeavors of the body, occupation, garden/farming, and healing or spirituality via the use of things such as crystal, plant or chakra medicine. Also, these are good indications for the Full Moon on May 10 at 20 degrees Scorpio. Meditation with crystals that combine earth and water (Scorpio) energy seem like a great combination for healing energy. The full Moon is in sextile aspect to Pluto while the Sun is in Trine aspect to Pluto. Pluto is transformation and power, so you can have a deeply powerful connection to spirit at this juncture, praying for help to transform, heal, and release problems.

Mars in Gemini squares Neptune in Pisces May 7 through 13, being exact on May 11. This is a time when it could be fairly confusing to communicate. Perhaps (tongue-in-cheek) the highest use of these energies could be a silent retreat? Seriously, though, it would not be surprising to run into gossip, to have trouble keeping one’s own counsel, and having trouble around issues of honesty. Feeling low-energy is likely. Your fears, imagination, and confusion are by-products of this aspect’s burn-off—so you can let them go past. Just use your imagination toward creative pursuits and conserve your energy and immune system.

Mercury turns from retrograde to direct on May 4th. On May 15th, Mercury will move from Aries into Taurus, and our minds will be able to slow down and rest after Mercury’s zig-zag multiple times across Uranus in late Aries. During March, April, and the beginning of May, Mercury has been hugging up to Uranus in Aries in both direct and retrograde motion. Mercury is our everyday mind; the chatter of our daily discussions with ourselves and others. Uranus is our higher mind and sudden (sometimes brilliant) insights and downloads from what can feel like a higher consciousness. When they get together, especially in a fire sign such as Aries, which is fast and bright, it can feel like our brains are bigger on the inside—like the TARDIS on Dr. Who. This is great for original insights but disruptive for routines. It’s lovely for experimentation but havoc on your nervous system—who knows what will happen? So I hope you can record your notes at the beginning of May from these past few weeks and then begin to make sense of them as Mercury moves into more stable Taurus and gives us the chance to breathe deeply and relax more. At the end of May (May 31), Mercury in Taurus will move into a trine with Pluto in Capricorn, so you will have a chance to transform those notes into something solid.

From May 17 through May 20, the Sun moves in square aspect to the North Node, so we may feel our karma, or our destiny, highlighted uncomfortably for a few days. Also, Venus in Aries will oppose Jupiter in Libra during this period of time. These may be the days where we feel we are gathering up and taking out the trash, metaphorically speaking. This is a spiritual Spring cleaning. I believe if we view it this way, and remember we’re not alone, we can bear the work involved in realizing change happens to all of us and our way is only one way—not the one right way. We can only see a little bit of the variety of this world—and there’s not much of anything to cling to—so we can let go and see what’s up ahead. The point here is to keep from getting stuck. Keep moving! Keep going! Take the steps we need to take to move forward. The forms that anything takes at the time of a square aspect will change, remember this. Change is a process. Heck, life is a process. Did we think things were permanent? Hah! Then there’s one of the beliefs that we can change today…

The Sun moves on into Gemini on May 21 and allows us to focus on a variety of subjects. We’ll be awakening to our curiosity and our neighbors. We’ll be feeling friendly and communicative as the Summer approaches. It is just in time for the New Moon on May 25, which offers a singular vision of Gemini—no significant aspects to this New Moon. That means it’s a great New Moon for dreaming a new dream. It’s a time to “wish upon a star.” A nice time to socialize, to sit in contact with life/spirit/the universe/God/Goddess/Whomever you pray with. Dialogue with life and be willing to start afresh.

At the end of May, Venus in Aries moves into a square aspect with Pluto on Capricorn from May 23rd to May 29th, being exact at the same time as the New Moon on May 25th. This gives rise to some tension when it comes to romance, which could be used for positive means I suppose, or could lead to argument on the negative side. However, it does lead me to conclude that it may be wiser to spend the New Moon solo instead of in a group.

On May 31, Venus moves into conjunction with Uranus and trines Saturn and the North Node. This means our creativity, finances and relationships are being activated, and we may see some sudden activity with Venus meeting Uranus. In terms of Saturn and the North Node, our Destiny may become activated in these realms. Feel free to give unexpected money, gifts, or compliments!

Mars is opposing Saturn from May 24 through June 2, so the male and female aspects of life may become a conversation, as well.

April 2017 Astrological Trends

Get Out Your Pencils:

Get your pencils out. Test time has arrived. This month Saturn and Pluto move into retrograde, not to mention Mercury retrograde and the tail end of Venus retrograde with the ongoing Jupiter Retrograde. If you haven’t begun a life review process, going over what you have learned, wondering about your karma and what has brought you to this juncture, I would be surprised if you didn’t begin to enter into that sort of mindset this month. Up to April, life may have been so busy that synthesizing events could have been on the back burner. However, it will become important to start to draw the connections between the internal, the spiritual, and the form of the external world as we interact with Saturn and Pluto energies, especially.

Full Moon April

From April 6 through August 25, Saturn will retrograde in Sagittarius. Saturn’s test is the test of the Percival myth: the test of compassion. As a young knight of the round table, raised by a strong single mother, Percival ran across the King of the Grail as a young man in his hero’s journey. The King was unable to recover from injuries, and the King’s knights said only the right question could save him. Percival was learning so many things: skills, arts, courage, passion, and even dignity and compassion outwardly. His test was to see if he was able to embody faith and compassion intrinsically, however. He failed to ask the King, “what torments you?” He could not think of the question independently—still too identified with the outward form of things to be able to form the question that could heal the King and allow Percival to fulfill his destiny with the Holy Grail. For us, this myth represents the ability to hold our values from a place beyond spiritual materialism. We heal ourselves when we can ask the right questions of our lives. What is tormenting me? Perhaps that’s the questions. Perhaps, what do I need?

When we get honest about our answers, we can begin to find our authentic values. These values are not relative to the things we have been taught, necessarily. We may begin to think, then act, for ourselves, and that is not as easy as it sounds when we’re surrounded by cultural influences. Through inner connections, we emerge through the Karma and learned scripts from our past to be comfortable in our own skin. Regardless of anything that happens in the world, that is an amazing victory to achieve in a lifetime. Inside us we could find both the Percival part and the King of the Grail part, and attend to both of them as part of the Saturn retrograde test during this year. We’ll likely find ourselves feeling more authentic as we draw these connections. Remember it’s about compassion—softening more and more toward yourself and being a friend to yourself has never been more important.

NASA photo of Saturn North Pole. On June 1, Saturn will be closer to the earth than it has been in 10,000 years...

NASA photo of Saturn North Pole.

(Percival failed in his youth and returned to the King of the Grail as an old man. Only then did he get a second chance to ask the right question. Destiny will always bring us back to the same question. It’s nice if we can pay attention and pass the test now, though.  I don’t want to wait as long as Percival had to wait for another opportunity…)

Saturn is square Venus and Chiron in Pisces upon retrograde, so at the beginning of April there are some serious challenges to the feminine aspects of life. The wounded parts of us may relate to love, finances, and creativity. The “wounded King” may appear as a wounded Queen in form. This year, as you may recall from previous newsletters, has a theme of learning to understand, respect, protect, advocate for, and support the divine feminine in the world. That can manifest in so many ways—socially, naturally, internally, etc.

Mercury retrogrades from April 9 through May 3, 2017. From April 9 through April 20, this will occur in Taurus, and then Mercury will move back into Aries. Try to give yourself lots of time during this retrograde period.  Mercury will back up to trine Saturn, then meet again with Uranus, and on April 29 be part of the beginning of the formation of the grand fire trine of Saturn, Uranus, and the North Node as the North Node moves into Leo. This grand trine is connected to the Saturn retrograde tests and challenges and Mercury and Uranus together should signify that our thoughts are getting inspired to move us into some revolution and inspiration for a time of evolution that gains a lot of steam in June when the grand trine becomes exact. It’s just beginning to build now, and this Mercury retrograde brings our conscious thoughts to bear regarding the themes we may see emerge for ourselves over the Summer. If you’re paying attention to your inner world, and the astrology says you likely are, take note (actually do some journaling on April 29-May 1) on your thoughts about your karma, past lives, evolution as a person, inspirations, what you see being integrated in your life, and, in general, your dreams and wishes. That’s a high use of this Mercury retrograde energy. The low use is chaos and confusion.  You might find a lot of psychic flashes through inspirational means.

Pluto’s retrograde in Capricorn occurs on April 20 through September 28. Pluto asks us to acknowledge issues of power and powerlessness. With a square to Jupiter in Libra during the entire time of its retrograde, we are asked to let go of our obsessions. What are your compulsions and addictions? It’s time to let them go. The abuse of power will bring all the attendant karmic backlash, so especially now is a great time to clean up our personal act. Any ideology we may be clinging to, any greed we may find in the corners of our eye, any excess we grab for ourselves—will likely end in tragedy. Better to save those impulses for another time. Now is the time to be easy—on ourselves and everyone around us. Freedom from excess IS freedom. Finding the balance to stand up for justice while keeping ourselves free from entanglements seems to be the trick.

Venus turns Direct on April 14 and moves into Aries on April 29. With the back and forth movement in late Pisces, that means the tough square aspect of Venus to Saturn persists all month. Until moving into Aries, Saturn will be testing the world on issues related to the wounding of women. Make sure you take extra care of the women in your life, and also the things Venus-related. Again, they are your love, finances, and creativity.

The same day that Pluto changes direction, there is a powerful message of zero degrees from The Sun, Mercury, and the North Node in earth signs. Mercury and the Sun are at zero degrees Taurus as the Sun moves forward into Taurus and Mercury retrograde moves backward into Aries and the North Node is at zero degrees Virgo. I believe this is a message letting us know that if we stay grounded in earth energy, we will find our strength and happiness. Focusing on health, the body, the Spring energy, keeping things simple and less intellectual—these are the pathways forward. Work with our hearts and our hands. We needn’t be too clever. We can simply be sunny and happy. We belong simply because we BE. Taurus is all about being.

On April 22, Mars moves into Gemini. This is also Earth Day! Look for yourself to feel a little more initiative and assertiveness. You may feel like writing and talking more than you have in March and early April. It may have felt like you were a bit shut down to communicating for a little while, but you should feel that shift.

It’s another day of the power of zero degrees, with Mars at zero degrees Gemini and the North Node at Zero Degrees Virgo. This should set the stage for some sense of conflicted energy around issues of health and service, and a lot of energy being put into healing.

March 2017 Astrological Trends

Sun / Mercury / Neptune in Pisces:

At the beginning of March, Pisces is highlighted with the Sun, Mercury, and Neptune moving in concert from March 1 through March 6. There may be many times when you feel especially connected to the spirit world, to people who have passed to the other side, to psychic events, or to the oneness of it all.

Venus Retrogrades in Aries on March 3. It will be a challenge to let go of the self during the month of March. Aries is all about the self. We may have to back up and realize when we act for the benefit of everyone, we can include ourselves in that action. Sometimes, it will go against what is comfortable. It’s a time of stretching ourselves. Venus in Aries is simply not as comfortable as last month’s Venus in Pisces, and RETROGRADE, to boot! Darn! We may face our issues more than once. I’m not so sure Venus likes to be assertive and straight-forward like Aries does—within or without oneself. (My chart’s Venus-ruled, so please know when these things hit, I will be right there in the center of the Venus aspects with you, holding your hand and whispering… It’s only temporary!) We can look to Neptune at home in Pisces, the higher-octave and higher-expression of Venus during this time. If we double-down on meditation practices, we can connect to our hearts in the face of surrendering (aka, being honest instead of feeling good when we need to make tough decisions).

Mars in Aries trines Saturn in Sagittarius on March 4. For a few days, you may find you have extra energy available to get started on some big tasks. There is support for exercise, inspiration, and you might find you have a little more fuel in your proverbial gas tank.

March 10, Mars enters Taurus. We can feel our energy consolidate and slow, as if a seed that has been planted and burst forth is now peeking out into the sunlight and unfurling. Each day brings steady progress instead of new unexpected things. We feel we wish to be grounded and steady. Mars in Taurus is still a time of immense stamina and tireless energy, however.

Full-Moon-March

During a sensitive time, such as this, take gentle care of yourself and be willing to retreat whenever you need to. It’s also a time when you could pick up a psychic virus (Mercury conjunct Chiron March 9 – 12) so surround yourself in white light and carry forth as the beautiful being you are. This influence wanes but may stick with you as the Sun and Mercury move through Pisces together until Mercury enters Aries on March 13. The Sun continues in conjunction with Neptune until March 17, so you may feel very sensitive/attuned through more than the entire first half of the month!

Happy Astrological New Year!

This is a nice way to prepare for the Spring Equinox on March 20—the Astrological New Year! With Saturn and the Moon almost exactly conjunct in Sagittarius the chart of the new year, it looks to be a powerful year of learning about the feminine. The Moon is the ruling planet of the sign Cancer (see the discussion about Cancer, the missing element in the wobbly T-square aspect pattern below). Jupiter, Pluto, and Uranus are set up in their T-square pattern (see description below). Neptune sits squarely in exaltation in Pisces, allowing a channel into higher consciousness. Chiron is close at hand to the Sun this year in order to activate helping or hurting, depending on our karma/actions. Venus is retrograde, and in my mind that signifies that we must go to her—or that she is in a Persephone storyline. Venus is in Aries and Mars is in Taurus, and Mars and Venus are in mutual reception. To me, this signifies that both archetypes are going to play a bigger part this year than they might otherwise. Look for issues of finance, creativity (arts—especially music), romance, and the kidney system to be in the forefront, as well as energy, transportation and movement, exercise, and the circulatory system (arteries). Of course, Venus and Mars are issues of female and male, and perhaps the issues of gender, period. Mercury is also in Aries this year, meaning some novel thinking may be in the mix as well.

Let’s also remember that Saturn/Moon squares Chiron in Pisces on March 20. This emphasizes the idea of slow and steady progress being the path forward.  You can tell you’re taking the higher path if you can breathe deeply and let go of any projects that are no longer useful. It could be a time of hitting your head against a brick wall. It’s OK to give up things that have outlived their usefulness! Surrender! Let it go! Move forward instead. If there are projects that benefit others, you’ll find yourself feeling a sense of satisfaction when you work with integrity toward the greater good. That’s how you’ll know you’re on the mark and passing Saturn’s test at this time.

T-Square – Jupiter / Uranus / Pluto:

The T-square between Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, and Jupiter in Libra is activated February 23 through March 3 by Mars in Aries and again in Late March by Mercury moving through the late degrees of Aries between March 25 through March 28. While the T-square energy of Pluto/Uranus/Jupiter has been occurring for months, these days may bring to light action and communication of some sort about the issues involved in the T-square, which is about tension. In particular, Pluto in Capricorn in politics and systems, and their structure. Jupiter in Libra is about the expansion of social justice. Uranus in Aries is personal freedom—the unexpected flash-point that brings tension/anxiety and can’t stand to wait. Maybe there will be a break in your routine or maybe a breakdown. There is a gaping wobble in the physics of a T-square in astrology, however—a place from which this aspect gains its tension. A T-square is like a 3-legged table, and this one is with 3 very powerful, slow-moving planets that can’t gain their balance.

The missing point is in Cancer, right about 19 degrees, where you would expect to find some representation of the divine feminine, a mother figure, or the family. Something to provide a sense of nurturing. That is what’s “missing” from the energies surrounding so much of what’s occurring presently, from an astrological viewpoint. If we are wise, we might fill that is for the environments we encounter. Slowly, as we watch the world evolve, as painful as it may be to our human form, perhaps we can be forces for healing if we embody a “19 degrees Cancer” presence for a month, energetically speaking. That means sometimes we dream the world into being, that our vision takes the long view, and that our cardinal feminine energy is powerful. That we imagine Summer even though it is Spring. That we view ourselves as divine mother, that we view others as our family, that we cherish more than admonish, and that we stick closer to home than otherwise we might. Our personal stories may bring us to our healing. Clearing out the home may integrate us through to transformation quicker than we think. We can witness and enjoy and give birth to the innumerable manifestations that make the world work. “Home” can be a metaphor in many ways, as well.

When we are thwarted; just go home for a while. It’s okay to have confidence and patience. Exercise moderation, even if you feel threatened.

Late Month:

On March 29, Saturn trines Mercury/ Moon in Aries. You could get a boost of inspiration plus clear mental thinking or mental pictures that help propel you forward today if you look out for it. It could come from a teacher or mentor, or some source of new information.

New-Moon-March

North Node Note:

We’re getting set up for May, when the North node has moved from Virgo into Leo and will move into a fortuitous trine aspect with Saturn in Sagittarius. Both the North Node and Saturn are karmic elements in the zodiac, and point toward the time when we can have some support for sustained fire. Let’s talk about the upcoming flames. There are 3 fire signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Aries is the sparking (inspirational) fire, Leo is the contained (or fixed) fire, and Sagittarius is mutable (leaping) fire. Saturn slows things down and teaches us to move from a to b instead of from a to x to h. So, we are headed toward a time in the middle of the year when we’ll be able to use fire energy in very productive ways. Saturn will mentor us and allow us to learn to “use fire,” sort of like we envision cave men of old learning to make fires. If you get my drift, a possibility of human evolution is at hand, according to astrology, right around June 1. It would be so nice to use the Pisces energy this March to call in your connection to spirit / oneness / whatever greater force you believe you are connected to in order to be part of the explosion of inspiration. The North Node’s journey through Leo will ask us to live with heart, courage, innovation, and authenticity. And, in another sense, to feel free to get a haircut, update our wardrobe, and enjoy our creative self-expression!

February 2017 Astrological Trends

The warrior and the pioneer both face uncertainty. The willingness to stand in the red chakra knowing oneself is what training is all about. Playing games for sport is a lot of fun—football, soccer, etc. Some of the movies we watch are epic tales of good guys fighting bad guys. But when situations arise in our lives that are truly frightening we realize those things did not prepare us to stand firmly within our first chakra selves. Our stereotypes of a hero are nothing like the warrior within.

The warrior within is strong and emerges only after a spiritual journey where we have faced our own darkness and integrated many aspects of ourselves. We are no longer fooled by form and often we are a wounded healer. Our strength is not muscular and is often not even our own. We know any actions are better in groups. We are often free from ego and ambition by the time we can stand in a warrior’s strength. We have flexibility and are willing to face hell although the worlds we create are heaven.

As Mars begins its journey through the signs once again, staring with Aries, we have a chance to reset our compasses—our moral and behavioral compasses. What is your true north? If you check, you’ll likely find that the past several years have taught you a thing or two about coherence if you’ve been on a spiritual path. If you’re feeling irritated—it’s time to seek your spiritual core and values. I can promise you the astrology says there’s no way around being revealed for who you really are through the next year. You might as well learn about your authentic moral character if you haven’t already.

With Mars so prominently in the mix, be ready for mistakes, learning opportunities, blunders, etc. There’s simply no other way to move forward than to act out our plans and ideas. And some of them will succeed and some of them will not. Some of them will partially work. Some people will evaluate their outcomes differently than we do—we’d call that “controversy.” The point is to do something different than sit on our hands—Mars will be moving direct the entire year and so should we be. Act, move, decide, regroup, try again, get up, keep going. Resilience is the name of the game.

What will you need for resilience? Will you need a group to support you? Get friends of like mind. Will you need a strong spiritual practice? Get to it. Will you need regular exercise to keep your sanity? Excellent idea! Do it—no excuses unless you’re sick! Mars is all about respecting the body. Will you need to schedule enough down time to make sure you’re not worn out? Make it a discipline to take excellent care of yourself! Make sane priorities for yourself and then move into your highest and best version of who you are becoming.

Because this year and this month is also about blossoming, I want you to think about planting the seeds that will blossom later in the year like little plant starters in your window this month. It should be a good year for gardening—both inside yourself and outside in your physical garden (if you are in the western hemisphere and getting ready to plant for the season here). Especially at the time of the lunar eclipse on February 10 and the solar eclipse on Sunday, February 26, when there is a lot of energy for sowing seeds in the fertile soil. Good fortune will abound for any of your high and noble intentions. (And, well, the sling-shot effect is in force for greedy, ignoble and selfish intentions.) Later in the year, Leo energy, and its association with the sun, will help with the flowering of these seeds.

Full Moon February

During February, Jupiter turns retrograde in late Libra. It’s a time for new humanitarian and artistic philosophical development and introspection. For me, the subject of Dadaism has come up more than once in different contexts, and with the political climate I wouldn’t be surprised if some manifestos emerged from the artistic world like they did in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, since Jupiter is square Pluto in Capricorn—which signifies political institutions.

Personally for you, you may need to deal with an issue of personal growth and wellness. Where are you out of balance? February is a time to look at that. You may have already started to see situations that attend to your or others’ addictive behaviors, character flaws (greed / insecurities / financial problems / grandiosity / honesty / narrow-mindedness), ability to be generous and charitable, and humanitarianism. During this year, after identifying which area is of concern for your life, you’ll have time to evaluate your plan and enter the next phase of your growth. With Uranus opposing Jupiter, there is sure to be a lot of tension in the mix to highlight the areas of life to focus on and to bring to light surprises that disrupt the status quo. These events may be the catalysts that drive home the need for expansion and change that change your beliefs. With Saturn in the mix, there are sure to be some stabilizing influences if you need support, or you may unexpectedly be called upon to be a teacher or mentor for others to calm a situation. This may change your role or belief about yourself.

These influences are directly active through June 9, 2017. They trail on indirectly as Jupiter moves through the shadow period until September 9, 2017.

Venus enters Aries on February 4, adding to the motivational energy of movement and momentum. There is lots of passion with both Mars and Venus in Aries. Yin/Yang together in a fire sign means a lot of inspiration and perspiration together through the month for the personal planets of love and action. So if you’re in a relationship or forming a relationship—a good month to pay attention to one another deliberately. The weekend prior to Valentine’s Day might even be superior to celebrate the one you love. It looks like a good year to plan a fiery, romantic date! If you don’t have a Valentine, don’t sweat it—enjoy some radical self-acceptance or self-care instead. Try something new that you think you may genuinely enjoy, or do something you KNOW you like. Make sure to treat yourself—is the point. Even if it is a great book, some Handel playing the background, and a cozy fire at home—that sounds wonderful to me—an Aries! Aries is all about the individual, too.

The Sun moves into Pisces on February 18, while Mercury remains in Aquarius. Our focus can soften as the Sun moves toward Neptune. Our minds may still be racing but our hearts may turn toward spiritual matters. Meditating may become easier again. We’ll be able to sense the oneness as the Sun moves into a water sign, and the feminine energy will be welcome.

Avoid your urges to power and conflict on the days surrounding February 22 when Mars squares Pluto. Go for the high road and have a wild date night—using the tension as passion! Or get in a good work out. But when you get blocked by others—laugh or shrug it off and imagine a sit-com laugh track—“Oh, Mars/Pluto!”

Similarly, February 27th brings a Mars-Jupiter opposition. This is when you forget self-control, humility, and patience exist. Instead, remember they exist. Make your meditation practice strong on these days and practice loving kindness instead of competition. It’s fun to win. It’s more fun when everyone wins. Careful not to overestimate your abilities at the end of the month.

The February 26 New Moon / eclipse also brings the solar conjunction with Neptune and Mercury’s entrance into Pisces. It’s a big shift of energy that day, and a good time to focus inward. As stated—a time to plant seeds. Prayer and meditation is highly encouraged. With a Mars-Jupiter opposition, the world of form will be like a chimera anyway—illusory. Better to focus on the world of emptiness—if that’s not an oxymoron…

New Moon February

With five planets in Pisces at month’s end, the skies are asking us to pause for a few days to focus on the spiritual and internal. We rest. We Pray. We meditate. We love. We expand our awareness. We awaken. On February 28 when the Moon moves into Aries, we slowly start the outer action again. Let it be so!

November 2016 Astrological Trends

(WARNING! The skies hold a LOT of information at present—get your favorite beverage and snuggle in for an extra-long reading…)

Ranier

As November opens, Neptune in Pisces sits in exact opposition to the North Node in Virgo. This opposition is active for November and December. The Sun in Scorpio is in trine aspect to retrograde Neptune, which adds a nice support to shine a light on this major energy and help you stop for a moment to absorb the context of all you have done, take a deep breath, and move forward lovingly and confidently prior to the holiday season and into the new year. There will be a heck of a lot happening in November and December, and the start of November is a beneficial (if brief) window to set your intentions and goals.

Saturn in Sagittarius is moving away from an aspect pattern called a T-square, that has been active for several months. Energy along the Pisces/Virgo continuum has been highlighted for about a year (will continue for another 6 months), and any aspect with the North Node involved always points to destiny being involved in a process. We are also seeing this year’s eclipses occurring along this continuum. Life has been asking us to use the highest form of the Pisces qualities that we have developed—compassion, imagination, sensitivity, vision, spiritual connection, dreams, inspiration—and do something viable and healing on planet earth with them.

This dynamic also gets activated throughout November/December with personal planets, reminding us how we have learned to release the things that are unhealthy for us while developing our capabilities to build the foundation to bring the world of our dreams to fruition. Throughout the past year, we have been tasked with transcending our boundaries to become more than we thought was possible, translating our dreams into reality, we have surrendered our escapes and our excuses—and all in order to focus on what was needed in the physical world to fulfill our deepest longings. What we face now is the need to stay flexible and keep moving forward even if we are slowed down (and here let me interject you have permission to slow down) and keep believing in ourselves. We have the capability to create the life of our dreams! Life/God(ess)/Source has a plan for us and we see only our portion of it—everything will coordinate at its appointed time—let’s use Pisces faith along with the Virgo manifestation muscle we have been flexing so much over the past several months. It will be nice to again be able to feel from the place of Pisces oneness and universalism, and to feel Neptune reemerge as the nodes move away from opposition/conjunction with it. Neptune in Pisces energy is our direct line to spiritual unification when it is at its highest and best use. It has been a little dampened down while we had so much practical work to do for a time. Neptune even turns from retrograde to direct on November 18, adding more emphasis to the theme of purposefully reconnecting to our spiritual connections at this time in a powerful way.

One of the personal planets involved is Venus in Sagittarius. Venus has just passed its rendezvous with Saturn and is approaching a trine to Uranus in Aries which will be active from November 2-7. This should give some relief from the harsh conflict of the Mars energy as well as any Saturn-meets-Venus tests to the finances and relationships you may have recently encountered. This will provide unexpected support to appease any recent unexpected frustration or annoyance, especially in relationships. At the same time, Venus is in square aspect to Chiron, however, so you may be either recovering from something that is painful, or connecting to a deep level of processing even as you feel the tension ease.

The feminine and masculine are very intertwined here, or there is a sense that the external and internal are both a part of the energy involved at the month’s beginning. Two spirits must be kept in mind. Balance and moving beyond a simple understanding of issues is important. Viewing anything in a reductive manner will only serve to make you head back to the beginning to start over. Venus in Sagittarius asks you to expand your awareness, your senses, and your heart. Uranus in Aries pioneers new insight. Chiron in Pisces brings universal depth.

Mercury in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn (exact on November 3 but in range from the first through the fifth or so) adds to the energy of reflection and assessment. Do some detective work with this energy at the beginning of the month with this combination. Make sure to respect ethics and avoid the low use of these energies—and don’t let others abuse their power, either!

Then Mercury moves into inconjunct aspect with Uranus in Aries on November 5th through 7th. At the same time, Venus in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Pisces. This has the potential for beneficial interactions with unusual and interesting people, and unexpected good fortune—especially financial! Also, allow yourself to go with your creative impulses if that’s the way it plays out for you. Uranus can bring unexpected brilliance your way.

The Sun in Scorpio sextile to Pluto in Capricorn highlights the United States election occurring, with the signs of Scorpio and Capricorn both being interested in politics and position power. The prediction of this astrologer is that Clinton will be the president, and many astrologers already concur according to the charts out there. You can read Alan Oken, for one example and astrological analysis.

Jupiter in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn comes into focus November 6 through about January 10. This aspect will be exact November 21-25, 2016 and in August of 2017 as well. It’s a long-term aspect that will have us challenging several areas. The first area is success & relationships. The second area is Philosophy/religion & society. The third area is cultural taboos or changes in laws.

You will see these areas on a collective level, but the interesting thing will be to observe how they play out on an individual level for you. What challenges will you face, and how will you manage your conflicts that emerge from these arenas? We will see. This influence is only beginning, unlike the Virgo/Pisces influence, which is in full swing—and which you can likely see in yourself now. For example, I can see myself slowing down for the next year as compared to this year in my studies—in relation to the Virgo realm. However, in the Libra-Square-Capricorn realm, I could see myself working to help pass the equal rights amendment next year were it to be reintroduced, after Clinton’s election this year. That is a real possibility now, with the political climate. That would be in the third area above of changing the laws of our culture. I am sure I will also face issues around success and relationships in the first area, where I will need to be careful to balance out the urge to succeed at things vs. cutting corners. It’s so easy to want to accomplish something quicker instead of staying the course on each and every detail. To maintain the patience to actually build a new system is time-consuming and to be a person of ethics within our times when people want things quickly…

Well, quickly is not how things actually get built. Let’s be the voice of reason during these times when people can envision things a lot faster than they can actually make them. We need to be the space-makers and be rational in order to allow for manifesting the good life—not just concerned with how capitalists value things. They have built unsustainable systems and now we are building communities and systems that will be sustained ling after we are gone. Let’s be careful and forward-thinking—not merely reflexive and swayed by those who are loudest among us. We live in important times when Pluto is shifting from destroying the systems that have not worked into rebuilding the systems that will work. That will play out in governments, in smaller communities, and right down into our daily lives. We are all in the middle of chaos right now. That won’t last forever. Sometimes we need big eyes and big minds to build things that are organized and meaningful for the future, even in the face of present-day bullying and short-sightedness, to say the least. We can use Jupiter’s expansiveness to look at the big picture in that manner instead of allow ourselves to become overwhelmed. Instead, let’s begin to build the future—as Pluto’s emissaries! How grand! (And yet we will need to remain humble enough to attend to every single detail to be effective and successful… Can we hold both in our daily consciousness?)

On November 9, just after midnight EST, Mars moves into Aquarius. From fire energy, our actions turn toward air qualities. Aquarius is a humanitarian—but more with brilliant insights and ideas. Systems and networks are favored. The collective is the focus. Freedom, spontaneity, wisdom, social justice, even some detachment may be some things you will notice in the actions of people. People will also be able to follow through on what they say more easily.

The Full Moon November 14 in Taurus at 22 degrees will be the Supermoon that will be closest to the earth since 1948 and the closest until November, 2034. This full moon in Taurus asks us to slow down and get grounded. Use the time to enjoy nature—in fact, moon gazing is a very good idea on this night! Enjoy yourself, tackle any financial issues, get some time away from the stress. Good food, good friends, and good stability. Find some.

Then, on November 11, just before midnight EST, Venus moves into Capricorn. In our relationships, creative life, and finances, the focus moves from inspiration to perspiration.

There’s an interesting pattern in the skies that repeats over and over that appears to be communicating something to us that is worth talking about. It starts in November with the Sun activating a trine to retrograde Chiron in Pisces and quincunx to retrograde Uranus in Aries from the 10th through the 14th. Chiron in Pisces uncovers our deepest fears and wounds in life and finds the weaknesses at the foundation of our identity. Uranus in Aries asks us to pioneer a new path and offers brilliant creative inspiration and considerable energy. The Sun’s relationship to them at this time is beneficial. We can use it to identify where our identity needs to change and channel our energy to make adjustments. If we can’t safely express our tension positively, we may find anxiety about the need to make changes results in rash actions and rebellion—in Uranus low-side fashion. (The Sun is not the only personal planet that will be enacting the Chiron/Uranus dynamic duo.)

From November 12th through the 18th, Mercury in Sagittarius sextiles Mars in Aquarius. This is a time to make big progress on your most important projects. The things you have felt behind on will get a big boost forward or you will find yourself with a boost of energy to get going on plans that you have in the works. The 15th, especially, is a day to plan to be extra-busy with the things that are important to move your life into the place it needs to be.

As Mercury moves through Sagittarius it will move into square aspect with the North Node from November 16th through the 20th. For these days, it may be nice to realize there’s an energy of conflict and tension between expressing oneself and being clearly understood. If you’d like to speak your mind, try doing it during the beginning of the month. Actions also require adjustment, as Mars in Aquarius is in quincunx to the North Node from November 19th to the 22nd. People are just at a place where they need to work on their communication. Time to sit in the back seat instead of try to drive. I plan to relax and attempt solo work during this time frame as much as possible. It’s always possible, of course, to use times such as these to practice connection to a higher source of communication and practice speaking from the higher self.

On November 21, the Sun moves into Sagittarius in the afternoon at about 4:30 EST. The themes of Sagittarius are teaching and mentoring, travel, freedom, philosophy, and exploration. Change and independence will be in the air! Wisdom can be welcomed and I always enjoy Sagittarian energy to the maximum. The stars open their arms to the month of Sagittarius with a Mercury and Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius from November 21st through November 25th, being exact on the 23rd. This can open a lot of serious dialogs on philosophical topics. Some people may find this aspect to get them in a rut if they are prone to negative thinking—but in Sagittarius it has the option of manifesting in a way that truly moves some social justice conversations forward in meaningful and lasting ways. This seems exciting to me! This aspect has the potential to touch many people in ways that set long-term plans into action and provide useful outcomes.  Mercury is also sextile Jupiter while conjunct Saturn, which means these goals are amplified and expanded. The themes of justice and humanitarianism appear to be linked.

After the Saturn influence, Jupiter continues to move into action linked to the topics that arise after November 21st, because Mars in Aquarius trines Jupiter in Libra from November 23 to December 9. This aspect is exact on December 1st and 2nd. This gives staying power to the plans conceived at the end of November. What you start now will be able to be implemented over the long term. Very auspicious, indeed!

On November 23rd, Venus in Capricorn is also conjunct Pluto. This lasts until November 27 (and is exact on the 25th). The Moon is conjunct Jupiter that day in Libra, too. This adds a divine feminine energy to the mix in order to propose that the most powerful approach in these times will be one of divine feminine power. Also, relationships of all sorts will get a boost from reorganization and stabilization. Sweetness in Romance is also favored.

Chiron and Uranus are again activated by Mercury in Sagittarius from November 25th to 27th. This time, Mercury moves into square aspect to Chiron in Pisces trining Uranus in Aries. While your mind may be moving in ways you can hardly contain—both psychically and in the world—and you may be meeting amazing new people—you may not find you have the ability or skill to communicate about it with Chiron in the mix. If you want to use the high side of this mixture, it will take an amazing amount of self-regulation and slowing down—as if you are talking in slow motion compared to the processing speed going on internally. It will be OK to allow yourself to have the majority of your conversations with higher powers and leave the conversations of the world for a time of more groundedness. Chiron is getting ready to turn direct on November 30, so it is doing some powerful processing at month’s end. The better course all around may be to listen instead of talk, anyway.

Another signal that receptivity may be the best course, even though it will feel as if the world is buzzing all around us, is that New Moon on November 29 in Sagittarius will sit in a T-square aspect to the North Node in Virgo and to Neptune in Pisces. The Pisces/Virgo axis will be present in full force again for us to ponder at month’s end and into the holiday season. Some of the thoughts about the holidays this year that Pisces and Virgo may raise could have to do with spending, perhaps. This will be a great year for Virgo’s frugal and practical practices. For my part, I plan to have a DIY holiday season. Plans are already in the works for recycling materials to make gifts. We have medical bills to pay that far outstrip any need for presents under the tree. I imagine a lot of people have similar circumstances that have expanded in their lives as Jupiter moved through Virgo last year—which highlighted any needed healing, repairs, and maintenance in our lives. So as the holiday season progresses, perhaps what we want for Christmas is for those we love to make a payment on one of our credit cards or student loans for us, yes? Maybe we want help in becoming more financially literate from the person in our family who pays their bills early—how do they manage to do that? Perhaps we want help cleaning the leaves from the gutters on the roof from our kids. It’s in these kind acts that the true gifts are found during the Virgo/Pisces times. What would REALLY help you? Let go of the tokens and try asking for what you really want. Allow someone to truly help you with something meaningful this year. See what happens. Maybe it will bring you together in tears. Maybe it will be a disaster. Who knows? That’s what true receptivity is like.

This Month: Astrological Trends * Journeys (by Mary Oliver)

October 2016 Astrological Trends

With Venus in Scorpio, the New Moon in Libra (on September 30/October 1) may ask us to think about relationships in depth. We may see people or themes from the past appear, look into our sense of self-worth and our fears in a way that allows us to move forward powerfully after the Full Moon on October 16, and perhaps resolve some emotionally intense situations with partners. Love and money may be in the forefront through October 16th, when the Full Moon in Aries puts things into perspective. You’ll be able to embrace both your own perspective and that of others after the middle of the month with your emotional and relational endeavors.

Northwest Coast

However, the Full Moon brings with it a lunar conjunction to Uranus in Aries along with the solar opposition to Uranus. Also, there is a conjunction of Mars to Pluto in the middle of the month at the same time as Mercury is square Pluto (October 15-17). The Sun squaring Pluto on October 3-10 kicks off the possibility of egos flaring up and ultimately needing to make major changes after destructive behavior or run-ins with authority. The cosmic setup of Mercury and Mars also interacting with Pluto means the themes of humbleness and rebirth, using power ethically, and facing our fear of death are likely to be triggered. This is a high alert time for us to ABSOLUTELY dismantle our impulse natures. We may feel everything from rushed to aggressive to passionate to lusty. The higher use of these possibly conflicting and overpowering urges is to channel them into something creative that we feel passionate about. We can receive endurance from Pluto and sudden insight from Uranus, so allowing life to shower us with these gifts is a better alternative than taking on the delusion that we are in control of ANYTHING on these days during the middle of the month. What is under your influence is how you manage the influences and events that occur—what occurs appears to be destined—so try to relax and ride it out. The ability to take various perspectives, a gift from the Libra New Moon process, will help in the midst of the external events through mid-to-late October.

Another major influence in October is the Neptune-North Node opposition. There could not be a more perfect color this year for October than Orange, with the North Node in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces all month, and its opposition aspect almost perfectly aligned on Halloween! It’s a dialog with the heavens whispering to us to move forward with our industriousness and discrimination—to bring form to our beliefs and plans. As we near the time of the year when they say the veil to the other side thins, instead of feeling awash in the ocean of Pisces energy, we may find ourselves feeling more focused than ever as Neptune’s divine essences are crystallized into form with laser-beam Virgo capacity. Now is the month when we can provide service without sacrifice, provided we slip out of our shadow expressions.

The shadow expressions of addiction, persecution (of self or others), sacrificing your own needs for others, allowing yourself to absorb more than you can, over-doing anything, failing to say no and set boundaries, and succumbing to fantasy are some of the things to avoid. Instead, hold your healing capacity lightly, enjoy your artistic endeavors, keep your kind nature in your back pocket—and hold the space for these easily/effortlessly. Allow this time of form-making to manifest itself without feeling you need to perfect anything or stay in control of it all. Let life do its work on you, and you participate where appropriate. The light touch and the happy heart will get you there fastest. Make few demands while putting in your work each day.

On October 20, Mercury Opposes Uranus. It’s a day when the mind may speed up too fast, when it’s good to pay special attention to slow down and listen to yourself and others. October 21, the Sun enters Scorpio, allowing focus to change from detached air energy (Libra) to oceanic water energy. You may feel a shift into a more emotional state. The couple days surrounding October 25 bring a square from Venus to Neptune, which can leave us feeling insecure about our looks and feeling low self-esteem. It’s a great time to take the high road and find things that give us sensory delights. Nature, poetry, dance, creativity—a time to feel good about feeling good.

On October 30, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury align altogether in Scorpio and trine Neptune for a strong, lovely water sign energy that portends good things to come for the next few weeks. Water is a feminine, dreamy, and deep element. Sensitivity can increase and egos decrease. Emotions, empathy, imagination, and creativity are favored. Changes that involve communication and listening skills are in sync with the two weeks after October 30. Gain some much-needed ground now, after several difficult aspects during the Summer months. What can be gained is hope about the future, access to the higher mind, and setting new goals.

Halloween looks like a wonderful holiday, astrologically-speaking, this year!

Nourishment for the Body and Soul

The Journey
by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice–
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do–
determined to save
the only life you could save.

This Month: Astrological Trends * Ritual for Calling In Success

September 2016 Astrological Trends

Let’s review some forms of escapism. Substances, Obsessions, Deceit, Avoidance (A new acronym–SODA?). From overwork to opioids, this is a time of temptation for each of us when we need to look through the pain that keeps us attached to our addictions (and in our culture it appears everyone is addicted to something) in order to face problems and find balance. At this time, avoid kicking the can down the road or looking for a guru/hero outside yourself. Examine what you know to be true about yourself, what you are called to do, and do it. Just do it wisely—because overworking yourself to the point of exhaustion is another way to dissociate from being present in your life.

The month opens with a Virgo New Moon eclipse on September 1. Journal about what you want or decide what you don’t want. In one form or another, clarify your goals at month’s open. Discernment of your heart’s desire and honesty about your capabilities will help you feel confident to move forward. With Jupiter and Venus in conjunction to Mercury as it turns retrograde, it’s a time of optimism and blessing/fortune in relationships, finance, creativity, learning, expansion, and mentorship/broadening. Finding peace, successful negotiating, and an increase in confidence is indicated. We may need to rethink our ideal plans, and communicate about it. It may affect relations with others.

A lot may have been compromised during Mars retrograde during the Summer, and Mercury retrograde in Virgo from August 30 through September 21 (keeping Mercury conjunct Jupiter from August 20-September 9) allows you to see into the details of your plans more clearly. This is important because September 10 is a major day of realignment when the astrology seems to point out that the adjustments made to your life plans can impact the next 4 years.

On September 9, Jupiter leaves Virgo and enter Libra for the next year, providing focus and benefit for the humanities, social justice, relationships, and balance. We may sense harmony and a re-framing of ideas that provides a fairer outlook.

Saturn makes its final exact square to Neptune on September 10, although the influence will be felt all month and linger beyond. We have been under a lot of pressure lately—a diamond being forged out of carbon. Saturn is trying to give form for Neptune to shine universal light through—like sunshine streaming through the prism of a diamond. Dogma and dissolution are in a tornado of creation flying past us at high speed.  It’s difficult to find grounding at present. This shift is something we will be able to process over several years, and it’s important to allow ourselves a little space to breathe instead of get caught up in the external energy. It’s OK to allow Neptune to whisper its message of looking internally for guidance and let spirit speak to us of our highest and best path forward.

Sometimes we need some space to shut out the noise, and we need to TAKE that space instead of wait for the world to calm down. During the Saturn-Neptune square, if you need a peaceful respite, make one.

This is followed by the September 16 Pisces eclipse (Full Moon in Pisces). The Sun and Moon are in square aspect to Mars. It’s recommended that you find some sort of physical outlet since Mars in Sagittarius can go either way on an emotional Moon aspect day, with a square being a stress aspect. There is positive and negative stress. Mars is also in pleasant (trine) aspect to Uranus, so you could take a hike or drive to some new beautiful natural place to explore scenery and the wilderness. You can have a rigorous workout that day. You can have a full moon ritual full of fun and spirited activity. Make it a romantic, adventurous evening. There are lots of ways to steer the energy toward the positive. One thing to avoid is reacting to any emotional triggers that come up. Save that for another day. Find a way to experience freedom.

With the North Node (which speaks to destiny) in Virgo opposite Neptune, the slow dissolution of ideas that poison our relationship habits is occurring. For me, I can’t help but think this has to do with the social construction of gender and how we are processing this as a whole. This is reaching all of us individually in different ways.

Traditionally, an astrologer might ask an individual: in what ways are you hearing only what you want to hear? Are you shutting out important information about this lover you are idealizing? Are you believing someone when they tell you who they are, or do you think you can change them? These same questions could be applied at a collective level. Neptune asks us to step up to the highest good for all, and the North Node asks us to clean up our karmic act. This is in effect from approximately September 15 until November 3.

The Sun in Virgo is opposite Chiron in Pisces on the same day, September 15-16. Many people are interested in healing or helping others during the Virgo/Pisces focus. There are a series of eclipses during this year and the next, in addition to this short aspect, and Chiron and Neptune are traveling through Pisces for several years. These energies offer the idea of staying safely on shore while you offer others a lifeline.  Do not jump in with them and drown. That would be martyrdom. And unhelpful.

Staying strong and allowing ourselves to learn to help and support the suffering we see in the world without losing ourselves is one of the lessons of the Virgo/Pisces axis that we’re learning between the years of 2010-2018 and beyond. It seems we are unable to avoid feeling the depth of suffering—both our own and others’—with a broadened empathy and understanding. This is one of the keys to our positive evolution. The Virgo focus is also needed in order to bring helpful forms into being to build supports that provide resolution and healing.

We need to be sufficiently prepared before we try to be close to deeply wounded people. We can see how even being close to our own problems can cause us to turn to the SODA behaviors mentioned at the beginning of this article. If we can find resilience in ourselves—we begin to be ready to learn a path to help others. Observe, however, how well you’re managing your own state of being—the energy you bring into relationships—before you try to influence another. If you’re not steady—stay aware of your limitations and maintain your strength until you’re strong enough to take the next steps. You’ll feel when your abilities expand—it feels very natural as your capacity to give increases. It becomes easy.

On September 22, the Sun enters Libra. This is the Autumnal Equinox. It’s a cardinal sign that starts new energies emerging for the season. It immediately joins with Jupiter and spends several days at the end of the month conjunct and focused on diplomacy, relationships, artistic expression, reframing ideas, partnerships, and peace.

On September 30, The New Moon in Libra also occurs. Libran themes close out the month and offer a path of creative outlet amongst all the other influences that remain. The last week in September is a time to pick up the watercolors or the pen, or see a good friend and discuss the things of your heart and soul late into the night.

Nourishment for the Body and Soul

Ritual for Calling In Success (AKA letting go of fear and taking on new capabilities)

Make a list on two sheets of paper. Light a blue candle and a white candle. Let them burn for about half an hour while you complete the next steps.

IN RED INK: On one list, describe the things you feel you are very good at doing; from the sublime and ridiculous–talents, qualities, everything you like about yourself.

IN BLACK INK: On the other list, describe the things you feel you are terrible with–all your fears and failures of the past; bad habits, failings, vanities, etc.

Meditate by breathing in and breathing out through your heart until you can take pleasure in breathing and you feel very centered and grounded.

Say the following:

Spirit (or Universe or Life),
here are my good points: (read the list).
here are my bad points: (read the list).
Only you know the truth.
I need a place and work that encompasses all of me.
Thy will be done.
Thank you.

Tear up both lists and burn them safely and carefully in the blue candle. Carry the ashes to the nearest body of water and release them into the water. When you release them, say again: Thy will be done. Thank you.
